Federal Government Commence Implementation of Sugar Tax

The Federal Government has commenced the implementation of a N10 per liter sugar tax on carbonated sugar drinks and beverages.

Chief Superintendent of Customs, Department of Excise, Free Trade Zone and Industrial Incentives, Dennis Ituma, disclosed this at a Policy Breakfast Meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

According to Ituma, the policy was introduced in the Finance Act, alongside the 2022 Appropriation Bill.

FG to Suspend Nigeria’s Basketball Teams From International Competition

The Federal Government has revoked its decision to suspend Nigeria’s basketball teams from all international competitions. Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Ismaila Abubakar revealed that the decision is based on a letter of appeal from the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF. Before the reversal of the ban, FIBA had replaced the D’Tigress with Mali ahead of the FIBA Women’s World Cup to be held later in the year.
