Ex-rebel Fighter Wins Colombia’s Presidency

A former rebel fighter, Gustavo Petro, has won Colombia’s Presidency.

Petro’s win in Sunday’s Presidential runoff election will make him the Country’s First Left-Wing President.

He won 50.4 percent of the vote, while his rival, Rodolfo Hernandez, had 47.3 percent.

In his victory speech, the President-Elect called for unity and welcomed all members of the opposition to the Presidential Palace to discuss the problems of Colombia.

ASUU Reveals State of Agreement with Federal Government

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has said the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement between the Federal Government and the Union has reached an advanced stage. This was made known in a memo signed by its National President, Emmanuel Osodeke on Sunday. According to the memo, the Union encouraged its members to remain focused to the end of the struggle.
