The federal government has warned of the effects of Female Genital Mutilation, FGM.
Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, who called for an end to the practice, described it as ancient and crude.

She maintained that there was no excuse to condone mutilating females in the name of culture.
Female genital mutilation is a traditional practice in most of Africa, involving the partial or total removal of the female external genitalia, causing injury to the sex organ.
