The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide on Wednesday has voiced strong discontent over the exclusion of the South-East region from the first phase of the students’ loan disbursement.
This comes amidst allegations that tertiary institutions in the region were marginalized by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND.
Last week, the Federal Government announced that N2.9 billion had been allocated to 27,667 students across 19 tertiary institutions. However, it was noted that no institutions from the South-East were included in the list of beneficiaries.
Reacting to the situation, the National President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, Okwu Nnabuike, expressed deep dissatisfaction, labeling the exclusion as unjustifiable why emphasizing that the reasons provided by NELFUND were unacceptable and called for the immediate inclusion of the South-East in the loan scheme.
Okwu further highlighted the ongoing marginalization of the Ndigbo, warning that such treatment should not persist under the current administration, which has enjoyed significant support from the region.
He also urged the authorities of the affected institutions to fulfill their responsibilities, cautioning that failure to do so would mark them as adversaries of the youth, whose futures are at stake.”
