The Abia State Government has set up a special committee to reclaim all public schools that were allegedly taken over by officials of the previous administration in the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, announced this at the Government House Umuahia, during a briefing with journalists after this week’s state executive council meeting led by Governor Alex Otti.
The committee, headed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Caleb Ajagba, has the primary objective of identifying around 180 public schools whose land has been seized by officials and associates of the former administration.
Kanu also stated that a comprehensive assessment of the state’s education sector has been carried out.
Additionally, around 12,000 teachers in public schools will undergo a capacity-building program to prepare for the upcoming school session in September.
