Shettima to declare open workshop on AfCFTA digital trade protocol

Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead a stakeholder workshop on Friday, July 19, 2024, to strengthen Nigeria’s role in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade Protocol.
The event, organized by the Office of the Vice President, will take place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, starting at 10 am.
A statement issued by the senior special Assistant to the president on Media and communications, office of the vice president, stanley Nkwocha, explained that the initiative aligns with the federal government’s goal of leveraging digital trade for economic growth and regional integration.
The workshop, titled “Digital Trade in Nigeria: The Renewed Hope Strategy,” will bring together government agencies and private sector representatives to develop strategies for enhancing digital trade in Nigeria.

According to Salihu Dasuki, Special Assistant to the President on ICT Policy, highlighted the event’s importance in advancing Nigeria’s trade landscape through digital technology and regional integration under the AfCFTA while the workshop aims to identify opportunities for enhancing Nigeria’s digital trade and discuss strategies to leverage digital technologies for economic growth.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader Renewed Hope Strategy, which aims to rejuvenate Nigeria’s economy and achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2026 through the digital economy and coordinated efforts of government and private sector stakeholders.
