The government of Abia State is set to launch a N1 billion interest-free revolving loan scheme targeting 9,200 residents across the state’s 184 wards, with fifty beneficiaries already selected from each ward for the first phase.
This was stated by Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, who briefed journalists at the Government House in Umuahia, where he described the scheme as both a palliative measure and an empowerment program, aimed at supporting nano and micro business operators.
Kanu emphasized that this program, fulfilling one of Governor Alex Otti’s campaign promises, is expected to have positive short, medium, and long-term impacts on the state’s economy.
The commissioner also, in his statement addressed the rising issue of vandalism in public schools across Abia State, calling upon community leaders, including President Generals of Town Unions and traditional rulers, to take ownership of schools in their areas.
