The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Cross River State has urged the federal government to prioritize rehabilitation of the Calabar-Uyo highway and other deteriorating federal roads across the state.

In a communique following their recent congress held in Calabar, on Thursday, signed by State Chairman Archibong Bassey, the union expressed concern over the poor condition and slow repairs of these roads, noting significant impacts such as delays, fatalities, economic setbacks, and damage to vehicles.

They called for immediate federal intervention on key routes including Calabar-Uyo, Calabar-Ugep, Ikom-Wula-Obudu, and Ikom-Ogoja-Katsina Ala roads, emphasizing that improvements would ease travel burdens for motorists, revitalize economic activities, and facilitate access for tourists and Carnival attendees entering the state.
