The World Bank has approved a $50 million fund to support Nigeria’s fight against food and nutrition challenges.

World Bank Country Director Ndiame Diop announced this during a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.

This funding is part of the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) project 2.0, designated as a crisis response initiative as Vice President Shettima highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to tackling its nutrition issues with a new, community-driven strategy that spans all 774 local government areas.

He introduced the N-774 Initiative, which builds on the success of the earlier ANRiN project, describing it as timely as the previous project concludes.

Shettima emphasized that malnutrition requires a Nigerian solution, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully supportive of the initiative, which aligns nutrition goals with sectors like education, agriculture, health, and social protection.

The Vice President also underscored the importance of leveraging the current political will to address Nigeria’s urgent nutrition needs and reverse negative indicators.
