Gunmen invade Anambra communities

Not less than 13 persons were killed in separate cult-related clashes in various sections of the Nibo community and Nodu-Okpuno Village, both situated in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Sunday.

According to report, the killings started when violence erupted and escalated around the community during the Nibo Onwa Asaa festival. Eyewitnesses in the community attributed the violence to rival cult groups who invaded the venue of the festival and began shooting sporadically into the air.

This account was further confirmed by a gory video currently making the round on social media showing many dead bodies lying across various areas of the community.

Speaking as regards the incident, the Spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command,Tochukwu Ikenga,stated that preliminary reports of the incidents are still sketchy, he therefore called on witnesses to volunteer information for necessary action.
Ikenna further added that the State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has ordered the deployment of policemen to the area while calling on witnesses to volunteer information for necessary action.
