Court jails pastor for raping member’s wife in Imo

The sentencing of Pastor Desmond Eke to eight years imprisonment by an Imo State High Court is a landmark case, being the first prosecuted under the Violent Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act in the state.
Eke, the founder of Deliverance Ministry of the Good Shepherd, Umuihita Abụ, Owerri West LGA Imo,was found guilty of raping a church member’s wife and administering a stupefying substance to facilitate the crime.
Despite his defense counsel’s plea for probation, Justice T.N. Nzeukwu convicted him on counts of breaching trust and rape, though he was discharged on a count related to inflicting injuries.
The case was highlighted by the civil society organization Onurube, whose convener, Marjorie Ezihe, praised the verdict as a deterrent against such inhuman acts.
