The National Council on Nutrition (NCN) has approved new measures to tackle malnutrition and food insecurity in Nigeria, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to improving the nutritional status of all Nigerians.
During a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Tuesday, Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized the need for active participation from all relevant ministries, departments, agencies, development partners, and stakeholders.
One significant measure is the creation of a national nutrition dashboard, to be hosted by the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and accessible on the NCN website which tool aims to enhance the oversight and coordination of nutrition-related initiatives nationwide.
VP Shettima highlighted the establishment of the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit within the Presidential Economic Coordination Committee, noting the administration’s focus on addressing the root causes of the food crises to develop resilient and sustainable food systems in Nigeria.
He commended the efforts of all stakeholders in the nutrition space and assured development partners of the federal government’s readiness to collaborate for the benefit of the nation.
Also he urged all involved parties to collaborate actively and proactively, stressing the importance of cooperation in achieving significant advancements in improving nutritional outcomes for all Nigerians.
