The Organised Labour has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider consulting and reaching an agreement with its leadership before sending the proposed bill on the new minimum wage to the National Assembly.
The delay in forwarding the bill has stalled Labour’s National Executive Committee meetingwhich will accommodate about 300 Labour leaders, leaving union leaders and Nigerians anxious about the government’s intentions.
A key Labour leader, speaking anonymously, expressed disappointment with the situation, emphasizing the need for official government action before Labour can respond.
Meanwhile, former Abia Governor Senator Orji Kalu has suggested raising the minimum wage to N90,000, citing hyperinflation and economic hardship.
This proposal significantly exceeds the government’s earlier offer of N62,000, which Labour leaders consider inadequate given current economic conditions.
