The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has strongly condemned the recent killings of students in some higher institutions across the country.
In a statement by its National President, Lucky Emonefe, the association lamented that such tragic incidents pose threats to education and the safety of students on campuses, emphasizing that campuses should not be turned into butcher’s shops.
Emonefe cited the unfortunate murders of James Michael Anajuwe and Musa Hussein, students of the Confluence University of Science and Technology in Kogi State, as well as the death of Favour Ugwuka, a final year student of Ebonyi State University, who reportedly committed suicide due to pressure from a lecturer.
He also demanded justice for a student from Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo, identified as Alex, who was unjustly killed over an allegation of phone theft.
NANS has called for immediate investigations into these incidents and urged authorities to urgently address the security gaps that have exposed students to such dangers.
