A former Senator from Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone, Emmanuel Onwe, has called for the establishment of a proposed Food Intelligence Agency in support of the Federal Government’s recent declaration of emergency in food production and security.
Onwe made this call on Sunday while briefing journalists in Enugu on his Open Letter to President Bola Tinubu, titled “Declaration of a State of Emergency on Food Security and ‘Commodification of the Naira Using Cassava’
He noted that the declaration of a state of emergency on food security should have prompted mass action in agricultural practices, pushing the proposed Food Intelligence Agency into action.
He emphasized that such agency could rescue the nation from food inflation, hunger, and outright population starvation.
According to Onwe, the agency would have the capacity to provide actionable intelligence on threats and prospects of food production, thereby averting recurring emergencies in food availability that have been embarrassing for the nation.
