Brazilian Civil Defence Agency disclosed that the death toll from heavy rains in the southern part of the country has climbed to 29, with at least 60 people missing.
According to Brazilian authorities, a state of emergency have been declared as the rescue team intensifies search for dozens of people reported to be missing.
Recall that earlier on Thursday the death toll since Monday rose to 10, however more casualties have been recorded.
Soldiers and rescue team have been working tirelessly to free families trapped in their homes and those stranded on rooftops in a bid to escape rising waters.
Federal authorities have already made available 12 aircraft, 45 vehicles and 12 boats as well as 626 soldiers to help clear roads, distribute food, water and mattresses, and set up shelters.
They also advised the people to avoid areas along state highways due to the risk of mudslides, and urged those who live near rivers or on hillsides to evacuate.
