Mumbai, India Cricket will feature as one of five new sports at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The organizers announced this on Monday.
A vote of the International Olympic Committee’s session in Mumbai has approved cricket, together with baseball/softball, flag football, squash and lacrosse.
Los Angeles chiefs have proposed a six-team event, in both men’s and women’s T20 cricket.
The IOC’s executive board has last week, accepted the proposal by LA organizers for T20 cricket, the sport’s shortest format, to be included along with the four other new events.
Finland’s former president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Martti Ahtisaari has died in Helsinki at the age of 86 after battling Alzheimer’s disease. The president’s office disclosed this in a statement on Monday. In the statement, the President, Sauli Niinisto expressed deep sadness over the news of Ahtisaari death. Ahtisaari withdrew from public life in September 2021 as he struggled with Alzheimer’s disease.
