Belarus Opposition Leader Bags Jail Sentence

A Belarus court has sentenced the country’s main opposition leader, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to 15 years’ jail in absentia.

Tikhanovskaya fled the country in 2020 after running against authoritarian leader, Alexander Lukashenko in presidential elections.

The charges against her include high treason and conspiracy to seize power.

The opposition leader, however, rejected the court’s legitimacy.
