Human Rights Commission Urges House of Reps to Pass Electoral Offenses Bill

The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has called on the House of Representatives to pass the Electoral Offences Commission Bill.

Executive Secretary of the Commission, Tony Ojukwu, made the call in a statement on Thursday.

The statement noted that passing the bill will enable the country to deal with cases of electoral violence, which has characterized previous elections.

It observed that although Section 145 of the Electoral Act 2022 empowers INEC to prosecute electoral offenders, the commission cannot investigate, arrest and prosecute electoral offenders.
