US Threaten to Sanction Sponsors of Election Violence

The United States Government has threatened sanctions, including visa restrictions, on politicians planning to instigate violence in the 2023 general elections.

Political Counselor at the United States Embassy in Nigeria, Rolf Olson, spoke on behalf of the United States Government at a Seminar in Abuja.

Olson revealed that the US backed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to deploy the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, and Electronic transmission of results.

The Counselor noted that BVAS and the electronic transmission of vote results sheets were to ensure the integrity of Nigerian elections.
