Federal Government Disburses N24billion to Alleviate Poverty

The Federal government has revealed that it spent N24 billion on different empowerment and poverty reduction Schemes on its National Social Investment Programmes, NSIP, in Sokoto State.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouk, who was represented by the National Coordinator of NSIP, Umar Bindir, made this known on Tuesday at the inauguration of disbursement of Cash Grant to Vulnerable Groups in the state.

Farouk added that since 2016, NSIP has made a positive impact on many lives of the poor and vulnerable in Nigeria.

ASUU-Federal government’s meeting ends in deadlock

The meeting between the Federal government and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Tuesday ended without an agreement. A senior member of ASUU who spoke to newsmen said that members of the Briggs Renegotiation Committee did not come with any new offer on the table. He added that the six-month old strike embarked upon by Public University lecturers is set to continue.
