The Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, has announced the implementation of appointment-based entry into passport offices.
Comptroller General of NIS, Idris Jere, who was represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of passport, Modupe Anyalichi, announced the policy at a workshop for officers and men of the Provost and Servicom Units of NIS Zone A Lagos state.
Jere warned officers to stop extortion and sharp practices in the processing of passports.
The NIS chief directed personnel working in passport offices to maintain a high level of discipline and professionalism in their conduct.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for the country to adopt diaspora voting. Obasanjo made the remark when the Chairman Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM Abike Dabiri-Erewa paid him a courtesy call in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
