Putin orders military to halt plans to storm Azovstal plant in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the military to cancel plans to storm the Azovstal plant in the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol.
Putin noted that his decision not to storm the Azovstal plant was motivated by the desire to safeguard the lives of Russian soldiers.
He gave the order to his defence minister, Sergei Shoigu who had told him that more than 2,000 Ukrainian fighters were still holed up in the vast plant.
The President assured Ukrainian fighters in Azovstal who had not yet surrendered, that Russia would treat them with respect and would provide medical assistance to those injured.
