Yemen President Transfers Power to Presidential Council

Yemen’s president, Abd-Rabbu Hadi has sacked his deputy Ali al-Ahmar and transferred his own powers to a presidential council.

President Hadi said the new body will assume the duties of both the president and his deputy.

This comes as Saudi Arabia announced billions of dollars in aid and urged the President to begin talks with the Houthis to end the country’s devastating war.

Yemen has been at war since late 2014 when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa.
