Enugu Police detains medical doctor over alleged child trafficking

The Police Command in Enugu State has detained one Emmanuel Ugwumba, 52years, of Ezimo-Agu community in Udenu Local Government Area for alleged child trafficking and forgery.

The Command’s Spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Accordjng to the statement, his arrest followed the interception of a public notice on an abandoned child he made and endorsed in the name of the Enugu State Ministry of Gender and Social Development on September 27, 2024.

Upon his arrest, he was found to be involved in child trafficking, with one pregnant woman, a four-year-old child and another two-year-old child, both female, being rescued.

Further investigations also revealed that the suspect is in possession of documents from the Ministry of Gender Affairs and unverified pest/vector certificates from the Enugu State Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources including the birth of 7 untraceable children.

The command noted that investigations is still ongoing and that the suspect will be tried and punished according to the law.
