The Abia State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has strongly condemned the assault on Amarachi Lawrence, a woman whose husband, Lawrence Chukwukere, allegedly attempted to gouge out her eyes.

In a statement issued by its Abia State Chairperson, Josephine Ogwo, and Secretary, Sally Anyaso, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) demanded that Lawrence Chukwukere, the husband now in custody for the crime, must face prosecution without escape.

NAWOJ further demanded justice for LoveJane Nwaiwu, the suspect’s landlady, who was also assaulted by Lawrence Chukwukere while attempting to rescue Amarachi.

The association emphasized that ensuring justice for the victims would serve as a deterrent to others who might consider harming their spouses.

NAWOJ also called on the wife of the state governor, Pricilia Otti, to work with the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs to establish teams in the state and across the 17 local government areas to combat the growing issue of domestic violence and gender-based violence.
