In Lagos, a tragic accident on Wednesday has left hopes of rescuing two passengers who fell off a bus into the Lagos lagoon dim, according to Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The incident occurred near the Adeniyi Adele axis on the Third Mainland Bridge. The impact of the crash, which involved an 18-seater bus, resulted in the passengers being thrown into the lagoon.
Farinloye has said that despite rescue efforts by personnel including the Marine Police and Nigerian Police Marine Corps, the search has shifted to recovery. Tragically, one passenger, a male, reportedly floated three times before drowning, while the female passenger didn’t resurface at all.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has revealed that the other occupants of the bus sustained serious injuries. The driver, allegedly speeding, swerved off the road and collided with the bridge railings, causing the fatal incident.
